Hi, I’m Sophie LaFond-Hudson, and I’m going to be a mentor for Team Zaaga’igan this summer.  I’m finishing up my masters in Water Resource Science at the University of Minnesota Duluth this spring.  Last fall I realized how much I love my research and applied to stay in the program and continue my work as a Ph.D. student with aspirations for a
career in academia.  I study iron and sulfur chemistry in the rooting zone of wild rice with a focus on the implications for nutrient uptake by wild rice.  When I’m not in the lab, I’m usually out on my mountain bike or paddling a canoe with my husband and friends.  This summer I’m looking forward to sunny days out at UMD’s research farm and hopefully
a few field days in nearby lakes!
