At the Farm

Today Megan and I spent time with Bruce Savage, agricultural specialist at Fon du Lac. We visited  Bruce’s Spirit Lake Farms and the Food Farm near the Reservation. We got to see what it takes today to run a farm and produce food. Definitely, got a health dose of fresh produce today!

Paddling Deadfish Lake

Today we got to spend time out in Fond du Lac with watershed specialist Kari from the Natural Resource Department. We spent our time today canoeing out on to the rice lakes. Once  we were out in the lakes we took water quality samples, that would be tested for nutrients, dissolved oxygen, and other parameters. It was a nice day but we encountered many bugs (by the end of the day I had three ticks). Despite the the bugs it was nice to actually see and do the testing and to see the wild rice growth.

Reconnaissance at Fon du Lac

After our hard work last week assembling peepers, today Team Z went to preview the sites we would deploy them at. It was basically a dry run for the big day. We learned that we need to add a few more things to the packing list, and I  learned that  walking in Waders are a lot harder to maneuver in muddy sediments than it looks ( I fell three times). It was all worth it though because I got cores of sediment in each location.

After Doing Reconnaissance at the sites i feel a lot more at ease about the big day.
