Exploring Duluth……..and extra lab work

This week we tried to familiarize ourselves with Duluth by going on a hike in Chester park. The weather wasn’t cooperating with us so we decided to take rain jackets and hope we didn’t get soaked during our hiking trip. We also helped out Nate with filtering and preserving samples for his research, from various sites in MN. It was a fun week filled with new experiences and tons of reading.

These are sulfide vials from rivers or lakes across MN, collected at various depths. The vials are ordered by depth, where the lowest is to the left and the highest to the right. The blue color in the sulfide vials signify the presence of Fe2+ and the red color is Fe3+.
